"Power of the Force 2" Action Figures

In this video, Red Coat and Black Coat take a look at Kenner's mid 90s Star Wars: Power of the Force Action figures, comparing them to the vintage 1970s figures. They also get sidetracked talking about bounty hunters and which characters can be seen hiding in the background of Jabba's palace.

You know, once she's taken out of the package, the Princess Leia figure isn't that bad. When you're not looking at her face head on, she isn't quite so "monkey face".

I'm a little surprised the Kenner line didn't phase out Walrus Man. With 92 figures available, who was going to miss one? But he remained available right till the end of the line, on a Return of the Jedi card.

Star Wars Figures Drink Too Much Coffee

This is how I feel after drinking too much coffee. I must be allergic to the caffeine. I get anxious and paranoid. One time, I was pinned to the floor in terror, having lost confidence in the planet's ability to stay in orbit. I expected to experience a sickening whooshing sensation as Earth plummeted through space like a falling bowling ball.

The music is the theme from CHiPS.

Indiana Jones is an Asshole

When I was a child, Indiana Jones was a hero second only to Han Solo. Looking back at Raiders of the Lost Ark, there are a few things too troubling to overlook.

Star Wars Figures Kissing Star Wars Figures

As a child, I always felt awkward when I wound up having two of the same action figure. Did this cause confusion amongst them, when the light went out did they argue? Each vying for the title of the "real" Darth Vader or Han Solo? Were they filled with existential doubt?

As I got older, I became convinced that my doubles were more likely to be seized by a powerful lust for one another. What name would be given to copulating with your double? Is it incestuous or simply masturbatory?

I now feel bad for the single figures, who have never known the sweet taste of their own lips.

Different Movies, Same Title

They've been making movies for what, about 150 years now? Some length of time that should make it no surprise some titles have been used more than once.

Dark City (1950 and 1998)

Charlton Heston gambling film noir becomes Kiefer Sutherland science-fiction movie marred by an over-explaining opening narration.

Diary of the Dead (1976 and 2007)

Ruth Rendell mystery starring Garry Marshall's favorite actor Hector Elizondo becomes the first in a looooong step down for the once visionary horror filmmaker George A Romero.

Gung-Ho (1943 and 1986)

War film based on the battle for Makin Island becomes Ron Howard comedy about the wacky differences between US and Japanese culture in a car manufacturing plant.

Hannibal (1959 and 2001)

Historical film about the famous crossing the alps with elephants becomes the too late, brain eating sequel to the elegant Silence of the Lambs.

Pretty Baby (1950 and 1978)

Romantic comedy about a woman who somehow woos a man by pretending a toy doll is a real baby she has named after him becomes unbelievably exploitive film about child prostitute featuring way too many nude shots of the 12 year old actress (I've read the DVD versions zoom the picture in on these scenes but I haven't re-watched since seeing the film on VHS years ago). The 1950 film features Lucy Ricardo's landlord, Fred Mertz.

Superman (1948 and 1978)

Early serial edited into a feature film becomes the beloved Christopher Reeve classic. Not quite two different movies with the same title but still not quite a re-make.

The Edge (1977 and 1997)

Soft-core skin flick starring Emmanuelle actress becomes David Mamet penned story about business men lost in the woods fighting a bear.
And that's not Brian Dennehy but Anthony Hopkins on the poster.

Whoops! Oh well, at least there aren't any cards with wife beating jokes.

Night of the Living Dead

The Latent Image was a production company that produced top notch commercials out of Pittsburg. Wanting to make a feature film, they pooled their resources and cash, deciding their best chance for commercial success was a horror picture. George Romero would direct a script by John Russo, partially inspired by Richard Matheson's vampire novel "I Am Legend"

The Killing Joke

Red Coat Black Coat look back on late 80's comic book, "The Killing Joke", and further ponder the question, "Why can't Batman kill the Joker?"

The comic was written by Alan Moore, who wrote "Watchmen", "Swamp Thing", "Tom Strong". He’s into magic, overly high standards of integrity and being an all around pain in the ass. The comic was drawn by Brian Bolland, who also worked on stuff like "The Invisibles" and is regarded as the ultimate illustrator of the Joker. A lot of panels from "The Killing Joke" wound up on T-shirts when the movie came out. And Tim Burton has said "The Killing Joke" was the comic he looked to for inspiration when engineering his movie.
